Many times I have wondered why I am not able to grasp certain learnings, no matter how many times I read on it / listen to it.. There are of course times when I grasp it and nod to myself in understanding, thinking that it will be retained in my memory.. But whoosh!!! It’s gone in a few minutes..
I go back to what I read or listened to and try to memorize it.. But in a while, its gone again.. Though many things that I should forget and let go, I seem to remember it to the last detail 🙁
As always, questions and questions..
Am I not paying attention while I read or listen?
What am I thinking on, when I try to learn?
Am I doing something wrong?
What do I need to do to remember what I learn?
How do I retain and recall what I learn, at the appropriate time?
For the first 3 questions I may get answers when I am conscious of what I am doing, while I am learning something…For the last 2 questions however, I frantically sought answers. The more I looked for answers, the more it eluded me!!
When people recall what they have learnt at the snap of a finger, I would look at them and wonder “How in the heaven are they able to do this with ease?”
The answers that I was seeking seemed to reveal itself thru the book ‘The Value of Values’ by pujya swAmi Dayananda Saraswati. Having read this once a year or so before, something made me seek this book and read it again.. When I read the first few pages of this book, it seemed to give me a direction to the questions I had. Every sentence made me think and question myself… I am still in the first few pages 🙂
This thinking is the trigger for this blog. What will unfold in the blogs that follow, is MY understanding and learnings from this book. I will also connect my understanding with examples and experiences from our day to day living.
This book is an eye opener for me and I hope I do justice to it, with the sharing of MY understanding and learnings.
I am sure that sharing my thoughts thru the blogs that follow, will give me clarity and perhaps also raise more questions and give more answers..
