It is indeed interesting how nature brings out so many thoughts. While a picture speaks a thousand words, reality speaks much much more; thus raising a question – does nature speak to us? A recent experience with a lot of conversation happening in my mind, right in the midst of ‘active’ nature, led to this blog; thus answering the question affirmatively.
Looking so very serene from afar, it may appear as a hillock seated on and surrounded by a lake. With the dark and white clouds above, dotting the blue sky, it indeed was picturesque.
Well, it isn’t a hillock but an entire island which is an active volcano* (ple refer to a note about this volcano at the end of this blog). When watched from a distance, one would search for a crater that indicates a volcano. If one looks deeply, the craters can be seen.
It is fascinating how some experiences can make us draw parallels to daily living.
Just like this vocano, each of us is an active volcano. We appear in some / many situations calm on the outside and handle situtaions with as much ease that we can. However, there is a anger simmering in each one of us, that may spew out every now and then, words, gestures and physical actions. When it will spew, what would trigger it, how will it erupt – no one knows including us.
Some anger outbursts leads to a depression within us – deep and wide. Life seems black during this time. Whatever we see and experience during this time reflects a greyness.
Every anger outburst leaves in us its own scars. Some scars run deep and these don’t close that easily, which is why situations trigger these scars to open up, from time to time.
Every anger eruption leads to some aspects of us getting chipped off. That is why we may hear ourselves or others sometimes say, “After I got very angry with what happened, I felt that I had lost a part of myself.”
Quite unfortunately, when we really have lost control of ourselves during a ‘volcanic outburst’, the words, gestures we use or the physical actions we resort to, not only leaves its mark on us but also on the others it is aimed at. The marks stay for its own measure of time, in both us and others. Sometimes these marks leave its trail in relationships as well – fissures, cracks, huge crevices etc.
Be it a depression or a fissure or a crack or a crevice, everyone of them is visible to us definitely. We may not recognise it or may choose not to accept it. It may however be visible to the outside world, thru the way we carry ourselves, the mindset that we radiate and the way we engage with the environment we are in.
Some scars and depressions may not last long or rather we may not allow them to last long. Healing happens from time to time, allowing fresh green pastures to grow. Life certainly appears to shine bright. The sky looks beautifully blue and the clouds ethereally white.
The wise say that the pressure build up and the anger outburst, is always known to us, just before it is ready to erupt. The steam which is an indicator of the readiness to erupt, is bound to release. It is good for the steam to be let out from time to time, so that the anger isn’t suppressed only for it to burst out with a loud ‘dommmmmm’.
So how does one let out the steam? Each one needs to have their own outlet (s), that they are aware of, which can help them. Sometimes, there is someone who comes along quite suddenly and gives an input; and implementing that can become an outlet.
Nature’s way is to reveal itself – just that we need to be ready at that moment to recognise it. The teacher appears when the student is ready – rcognise the teacher!!
* The experience and the pictures are of the Taal Volcano and Taal lake at Tagaytay in Phillipines. The Taal volcano is an active volcano. The last eruption was on January 12, 2020. At times, there is black steam that is seen coming from the volcano or white steam which is sulpher vapour that is released.

Beautifully written . I really loved the way you have compared our emotions ( anger ) to a volcano. I m blessed to have a friend like you who have let me release the volcano inside me this making me calm . Yes like u said outlet is necessary. Who let’s us release the outlet and how is very very important.

Wonderful pictures and thought process indeed! Beautiful articulation just aa the pictures…
At this very moment, most of the world thinks that I am calm and joyous…
Hardly one or two souls FEEL the volcano that’s simmering inside.
Should I say “blessed souls” or “unfortunate ones”?
