I was thinking of a phase I am experiencing and suddenly this quote / proverb occured to me –
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
This made me think, “Why lemonade? Because it is refreshing to drink? Because it parches a thirsty / dry throat? Because it feels good to drink the lemonade with a dash of salt and / or sugar? Use the situation that you are in, to make something positive for yourself?” Whatever the reason maybe, this got me thinking. Me being me, thought of the famous proverb / quote that used a fruit to send a message – an apple a day keeps the doctor away.. Questions aren’t far away either, for me, when the thinking happens..
What are the fruits that have been used in proverbs / quotes and what are the proverbs / quotes and what do they mean (to me) :-).. I did a kutti research and here’s some of what I found..
You can count the apples on a tree but you can’t count the trees from one apple.
We may think we are a drop in the ocean but what kind of a drop? A significant drop.. How significant? Infinite possibilities!!
When a monkey doesn’t get a banana, he eats chillies.
If plan A does not work, there is plan B. Plan B may be different from plan A and may not seem palatable; but to move on, it has to be made palatable (ethical plan B ofcourse).
If life is a bowl of cherries, then what am I doing in the pits?
Life comes with situations of different sizes and shapes. It looks attractive in its own way, so why are we looking at the darker side of it? Change the lens with which life is looked at.
A coconut shell full of water is a sea to an ant.
Ahh!! While the human may find a coconut shell of water to be a blessing on a hot summer day, for an ant it may look overwhelming.. How we see a situation and how another may see could be so so different.
Grapes are eaten one by one.
Life needs to be lived one step at a time. That’s when each step is relished and lived. Being in the now!!
No melon peddler cries, “Bitter melons”. No wine dealer says, “Sour wine”.
When we talk about ourselves, we avoid using adjectives, especially the ones that do not have a not so positive tinge to it. We know ourselves to the extent that we see of ourselves.. Why then do we sell ourselves short!!!
A strawberry doesn’t ripen according to the wishes of a monkey.
Things happen the way it needs to and at a time and place that is right. ‘I wish’ doesn’t matter!! When what has to happen happens at the right time and place, that is what was meant to be!!
Two watermelons cannot be held in one hand.
Multi-tasking? Suddenly this seems like a myth.. You need to drop one task to carry out another, even if it is for a brief while!!
It was indeed very interesting to see the number of proverbs / quotes, keeping fruits as the subject of it.
Pulpy matter, if we deep dive drawing our own perspectives to it..
Life is everything and everything is life!!
