Intention – a word that means – to do with a plan and a purpose. It also means a thought or an idea. This thought or idea or rather intention (which is what would be the word used in this blog) may also have an implicit purpose – of making ourselves happy; making others happy is incidental π
Right from childhood, there are many intentions that we have, which emerge due to our own experiences. Every intention is driven by a need and we may not always know where the need is emerging from. We recognise the intention but not the need, which is why some of our intentions surprise us.
Some of our intentions manifest at some point in time in life, while some don’t. When would they manifest, where would they manifest, how would they manifest – we don’t know, but they may manifest.
This manifesting of the intention may not be at the scale we thought it to be. It maybe a micro version, it maybe in a place completely different from what we envisaged it to be but you see the intention manifest.
However, to see these manifest, we need to be able to map the manifestation to the intentions, when they happen. To share a few, both those of mine and those I have heard of
– A friend of mine said that she wished she was born into a family of musicians. Her daughter got married to a person who is a musician and comes from a family of many musicians.
– I am a big fan of John McEnroe and have always wanted to meet him. I still have’t met him but had the opportunity to walk in the Wimbledon statdium where McEnroe may have walked many times.
– A friend’s father wanted one of his children to complete a degree in medicine and to be called Dr. One of his children went on to do his PhD and became a Dr.
– Everytime I read a story about the wars and battlefields, I have been curious about it. When I hear about a Jhansi ki Rani or Rani Lakshmi Bai or Velu Nachiyar or Kittur Rani Chennamma and how they fought battles amongst many men, I have wondered how it may have been for them. I saw a microcosm of this recently in the Ninjutsu class where I train in.
– The first time I met a person who was diagnosed Special Needs, I was fascinated by some of the conversations I had with him and that triggered an intention to help people like him. Many many many years later, I find myself working as a Special Educator working with Children with Special Needs.
– The first time this young boy saw a transgender, he felt that the way they were being treated by the society was not fair. He thought they should be given an opportunity as well, instead of being looked at as an outcast. Almost a decade and half later, when he joined his first workplace, one of his team members was a transgender.
– Just that morning, this girl in her mid teens was saying that she wished she had the money to offer food to a few people who needed it. Since it was her birthday that day, it was customary for her and her parents to visit the temple. At the temple, the person who was donating food that day, called her and told her to serve a few people as he had to go to the temple office to run a quick errand. Well..
Life is full of such moments. There are many such intentions that each of us would have seen manifest in our lives – at some time or the other, in some way or the other and in some form or the other. It is so important to be aware when these intentions manifest.
A friend was asked, “You seem to be happy and content with the smallest of things that manifest in your life. Don’t you want to achieve big?” Her only answer was, “Small is big.”

Yes indeed. Our Intentions do Manifest. Only a few realize it… and a fewer acknowledge it!
As usual you have provided very simple and powerful day to day examples. Lovely.
I have always wondered when DESIRES turn to INTENTIONS!!
